Overview
English for Healthcare Professionals is designed for healthcare professionals whose first language is not English and are working in the UK or plan to move to an English-speaking country for work and will need to use clear, accurate English in everyday work-related situations. The course can be taken alongside a degree or professional qualification studies elsewhere, as part of an informal career development programme.

- Develop English language skills: grammar, reading, listening and writing
- Apply language skills to a range of healthcare contexts and situations. For example: using adjectives to describe symptoms, using vocabulary related to problems/solutions and causes/effects
- Interpret different genres typical of healthcare, including instructions, notes, reflective journals, registration forms
- Explore new vocabulary and terminology relating to healthcare
- Identify suitable communication modes for different professional situations, for example when giving instructions to patients such as colloquial language and ambiguous language; interpreting and using vocal inflections; cues and inferred meaning
- taking a patient-centred approach when communicating with or supporting patients (and their families) and helping them to reach decisions with you about their treatment and care
- sharing with patients, in a way they can understand, the information they want or need to know about their condition and treatment options
- practising and analysing consultation scenarios (role plays) focusing on language and interpersonal skills
- Reflect on your learning, and practice writing a reflective journal. Apply language skills to evaluate your experiences
- Collect and record medical information by reading and listening for specific information
- improve personal skills: time management, stress management, education and training, interpersonal communication skills, cross-cultural communication skills, professional ethics
- improve professional skills: conducting medical research, making presentations, writing research articles and speeches for conferences

Who is it for?
These qualifications are suitable for learners who are preparing for entry to higher education or professional employment in the UK or internationally. The qualifications are available at A1 (Entry Level 1), A2 (Entry Level 2) and B1 (Entry Level 3)
Certification
After attending the course and successfully passing a multiple-choice questions examination, candidates receive certificate from an awarding body within England and Wales who are currently recognized by Ofqual and Department for Education and Skills.
